Deepest Sender

My internet world was woken up to a bright new day. I finally decided to get around to downloading some add-ons for firefox. I really hadn’t bothered up until now. I guess I was just to lazy to do it. Either that or I would just find other things to do. Boredom must have crept up on me to go through those tedious lists of add-ons.I grabbed several so far. The best one would be Deepest Sender. I don’t have to log into blogspot to be able to post anymore. I just click on a little icon and wham, a window opens up. Nothing more simple then that. It logs me in and away I type.

I also grabbed YouPlayer. This allows me to bookmark YouTube videos and watch them in a different window. I don’t have to go back to YouTube to look at them. Nice and simple to use.

I already had the one for StumbleUpon. If you haven’t found out about StumbleUpon, you are certainly missing out. This little button takes you to random pages that other people have suggested. You can customize to what types of sites you want to visit. You can then click the thumb if you like it or thumb down if you don’t.

Of course I got the del.icio.us add on. This lets me add sites quickly and easily. Plus I can manage the sites that I have already added.

If you don’t have firefox, you should check it out. The reason I ended up getting it was because internet explorer was having trouble after a windows update. It would only let me see a few sites, then close itself. I got sick of this. I couldn’t get any help from Microsoft. They told me that I had to reformat. Well, I downloaded firefox and haven’t looked back since.

Raven Halloween Hunt

How many of you like reading? How many more like scavenger hunts?

I found a great combination. Be prepared to spend hours working on this one though.

Be prepared to go searching through about 60 sites to find the image. Don’t be fooled. There were some sites that I found the big image that I have to the left. That is not the one you need to find. The one you need is the small one on that they have an example of on the main contest page. After about halfway through, I realized that some authors had both. So of course, I had to go back and start again just to make sure I got the correct ones.

There are tons of prizes to win. You don’t get to choose which prizes you get.

I have found out about a bunch of great writers whose books I am going to be searching for.

There are some whose web pages leave me cringing. They were so cumbersome to look through. Some even had a different look to each page. Others opened each page into another window. Its very frustrating.

Splintered Icon

This book serendipitously fell into my hands. I had been very bored with reading lately. All of the books that are sitting here crying for me to read them, just haven’t been grabbing my attention. Sure they are all books that I would normally devour. However, I was just wanting something different. Something that wasn’t like my normal reading style.

The other day at work, JT (the center manager) was going through the old lost and found drawer. There were things sitting in there since ancient times. She decided to give items that were rather old to the employees. There was quite a bit of jewelry in the find. I am not one to be attracted to shiny objects.

One of the last things she pulled out was a book. She handed it over to one of the other girls. I was crest fallen at this. Out of everything there, that would be the one thing I would cherish. Books are my precious.

Thankfully, VG doesn’t like to read. She just let the book lay there. I snatched it up quickly. The cover was very interesting.

That night, I curled up with the book. It held my interest from page 1. There were two tales intertwining into each other like long lost lovers.

In modern day, you have Harry who is a normal every day antique book store owner. A short stubby man hired him to decipher a journal. Little did he know that his plebian life was about to be turned upside down.

Travel back in time, to bonny ol’ Scotland. James had an incredible thirst for knowledge. His farmer step-father disapproved of his intellect. James finally decided to risk it all and leave his small hut and the only life he knew. Every turn was filled with adventure and intrigue.

I could barely put this book down. Bill Napier wrote in such a way, that I felt like I was right there. I could imagine the boat rocking and being thrown about during the storms. I could picture myself right along with them in the car chases. You never know what twist lies ahead in this book.

This is definitely one to buy.

To Joost or not To Joost

The other day I literally stumbled upon a great new service on the internet called Joost. My mouth was salivating as I watched the promo video.

Joostâ„¢ the best of tv and the internet

I couldn’t wait to download it. This was internet TV at its easiest. I just needed to get my hands on that program and I would be watching away.

I quickly found the download page. I wanted to cry at what I saw. It wasn’t fair. I had to get an invite from someone who was already using the service. It is still in beta testing and they don’t want everyone to have it yet.

I felt like Willy Wonka on his search for the golden ticket. I was going from site to site. There had to be someone out there with extra invites that was willing to send me one.

Finally, I found one. I couldn’t believe it. Could I really get this lucky?

Well, now that I am finally hooked up and happily watching, I am willing to send out invites to anyone that wants one. You just need to leave me an email address.

You won’t believe some of the things you can watch…. Remember that right now it is still in beta. They are constantly adding programs.

MTV
Comedy Central
VH1
Transformers Channel
Spiderman Channel
Gong (One of my favorites!! Has anime!)
Extreme Sports
Chic TV
And many, many more. Believe me, it would take me forever just to list all of the channels.

Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon

Right now I am reading an omnibus of short stories that were written in the 70s/80s.
If you are into off color humor and tons of puns, then this is definitely the book for you. It is hard to put down. The short stories were all originally written for magazines. There was a computer game that was made way back when (and yes I had played it before).

Speaking of computer games, I was asked the other day why I play some of the games I do and what my playing style was. Well, one of the reasons I play MMOs is because of the people you can meet and also the storylines. Yea I know that sounds corny, but I think of them as interactive books. I love to finish quests and see what’s next. My friend Krysta on the other hand is all about the gear and levelling. I could care less what gear I have on and I could care less about level. I just want to be able to continue with the story. I guess that is why games that require too much grinding in between quests bore me way too quickly.

Witch of Cologne

I just finished reading the Witch of Cologne by Tobsha Learner. This was truly a masterpiece. Every now and then I decide that I want to read a book that truly works out my mind. This was definitely one of those books.

Tobsha writes in such a way that I was transported back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition. I was able to imagine what it was like living as a Jewish Midwife back in those dangerous times. It felt like I was living right alongside Ruth as she delivered those babies. Then experienced her terror as the inquisition came for her. The mob mentality of those times was truly horrific. If just one person made accusations, then everyone would start to step forward. To make matters worse, in the midst of the horrors of the inquisition, the plague struck down thousands of people.

She creates such believable characters. At times you truly hate those such as the Inquisitor. Then other times you feel deeply saddened by his humanity and fraility.

I highly recommend this book. However, make sure that you have big chunks of time to spend reading it. This isn’t a book that you can just pick up and read a few pages here and there.

Crazy Shit

One of my guildmembers in EQ2 was telling us about some cartoon that he had grown up watching in New Zealand. It was the most bizarre thing to the point that we thought he may have been making it up or something. There was just no way that there was a children’s story about trouser snakes and witches turning policemen into apple trees. Well guess what!! It is real!

You can actually read the entire story on this site here. I can’t belive that I actually read all the way through it. It is so bizarre. The pictures are equally bizarre. Wait till you see the pic of the dog playing the piano with his tail.

Lamb, a good read

A friend from work loaned me a great book to read. It’s called Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal. It was written by Christopher Moore.

Wow!! This is a really great book. It is completely tongue-in-cheek comedy. So please don’t be offended by any of it if you are a hardcore christian. It is set in modern times. Supposedly, God has decided that a new Gospel was to be written. So he sent forth an angel to resurrect Christ’s childhood friend Biff. This book chronicles Biff writing the Gospel and of the Gospel itself.

If you like Doulglas Adams, John Dechancie, Robert Aspirin and any author of that ilk, then you will definitely love this book. Be prepared to laugh your ass off. Christopher Moore is a wonderful author. He recently wrote a book called “You Suck!” Its a sequel to “Blood Sucking Fiends”. If you haven’t read anything by him, I suggest you run out to the local book store and pick something up by him!

Dungeon Runner

Well, I got an invite to play a game called Dungeon Runners. It is a strange little game published by NCSoft. The names of items and descriptions of traits are off the wall. The game play is pretty basic. I am not sure how I feel about it yet, but I am probably going to play it for a while to check it out.

At this point in time, you can only play it by getting an invite directly from NCSoft or from someone already in game. There are two ways you can play. You can play for free or get a $5 per month membership. By having the membership, you have access to the bank, you can use elite items, etc. The highest level is 100. It will take forever to get there. Downside is you can only play a human and there are only 3 classes. I am hoping as the game is developed more, that they will bring out more classes.

Childs Play Charity

For ages, I have been reading an online comic called “Penny Arcade” about these gamers. Those who are gamers or who are friends of gamers will fully understand these comics.

Anyway, the creators of this comic felt that as gamers, we are always being slighted in the media for the cause of many problems. They decided to create a charity to help children. This charity is really great. Its called Child’s Play. They utilize Amazon to send items that are purchased to various children’s hospitals for the holidays.

Even if you aren’t a gamer, this is a great charity to get involved with.
