Sleeping like a princess

I have trouble sleeping at night.  Because my thyroid functions are normally out of whack, my body temperature drops drastically at night.  At one point, the endocrinologist was having me take my basal temperature every morning to see how low I was actually going.

Anyway, because my body temperature drops so drastically, when I wake up I am extremely stiff and in pain.  My muscles and joints stiffen up and it is very difficult to move.

My sister solved that problem for me!!  She had seen something at Linens & Things awhile back, but didn’t buy it because it was expensive and knew that her husband would have a cow if she spent that kind of money.  Well, the Linens & Things by us is going out of business.  So she went to see what kind of deal she could get on items there.  Come to find out that what she wanted to buy me was extremely cheap now because of the sale.

Anyway, what she bought me was a heated mattress pad.  It goes onto the mattress before you put your sheets on.  It is fitted like a sheet so it doesn’t move around and bunch up.  There are 5 temperature controls on it.  It also has a 10 hour automatic shut off in case you are an air head like me and forget to turn it off.

Last night was the first night I used it.  OMG!!  It was the best sleep ever!!  I didn’t have to use 3 blankets to try to keep some body heat.  My muscles weren’t stiff and sore in the morning.  When I got out of bed I didn’t look like I was over 100 years old trying to stand up.

I certainly wished that I had this ages ago.

ch-ch-changes

So I got into work yesterday morning and a ton of change occured over the weekend.  I really like it.  I know that alot of the other girls don’t like it, but I really think its for the better.

They redid the entire front window.   So instead of having this big pane of glass in between the two front seats, its now entirely open.  They extended the countertop in both directions so that the patients can’t just reach over and grab stuff off our desks nor can they look at the paperwork sitting there.

One of the chief complaints that I heard was that they felt like people were staring at them.  Well, ummmm…. they were anyway even without it being open.  Its not like some offices where you could close the glass in between helping patients.  Ours stayed open at all times.

The copy machine is no longer in my back.  So I am not stuffed into a small spot.  That annoyed me.  Yes we lost two drawers up front but that wasn’t really a big deal since its mainly junk in those drawers.  I would really love to get up there and get rid of more stuff out of those drawers anyway.

Speaking of drawers, what I don’t understand is how 1 girl who only works up there a total of 2 or 3 hours a day can have a drawer to herself, yet I am up there an entire 8 hours and not have a drawer.  Just something to ponder….

Anyway, I still don’t have my computer back.  I need to call George to see what is up.  I bet the part was delayed because of the holidays.  That is probably what happened.  I can imagine getting things shipped now must be a bitch.

Ohhh…. Krysta was in the hospital again.  She had an abcess in her abdomen and a perforated small intestine.  She is home now though.  Or… well…. as home as she can be.  She has to be shuttled back and forth between her mom’s house and her dad’s.  So she is barely at home at all.  She has several drainage tubes and an IV line in.  A home health nurse has to come daily for dressing changes and IV changes.  She is not allowed to eat or drink anything for several weeks.  In about 4 weeks, she goes back to the doctor to see if she is stable enough to have surgery.

Its a total mess.  So we have a new expansion in Everquest 2 and neither one of us can really play.  This completely sucks.  Yea I can still play Guild Wars with no lag and I can play City of Heroes/City of Villains with lag, but still.  I wanna play Warhammer Online or Everquest 2.  I am so addicted to those!

I have been playing Kingdom of Loathing alot though.  OMG!  That is completely fun.  I just finished another ascension the other day.  In fact, I just got out of ronin yesterday.  The servers are quite overloaded right now due to Crimbo.  Everyone seems to come out of the wood works for Crimbo.  Its really interesting this year.

Well, I have to go get ready for work.

Ohhhh…. I finally got the letter from Department of Transportation to set me up for the Disability Transportation.  I had to call them.  They told me that they will call me back on December 19th to tell me date and time of my evaluation appointment.  I really hope I get it.  I can’t see why I wouldn’t.  I am not allowed to do much of anything per doctors orders.  My primary care doctor won’t allow me to exercise because of my heart.  He says the only thing I am allowed to do is walk.  My neurologist doesn’t want me out walking alone because of my seizures.  I am not allowed to drive because of my seizures.  The medicine that they have me on for seizures does decrease the frequency but it makes me disoriented and lethargic.  The neurologist also said that my reflexes are slower.

So as of right now this is my medicine regimen.

  • Armour Thyroid
  • Lisinopril
  • Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Folic Acid
  • Tricor
  • Phenatoin

There are also some for my IBS and acid reflux that I am supposed to take, but since they don’t bother me that much, I don’t take them.  Geesh… You would think I would rattle everytime I walk with the amount of pills I take.

Well, its time to get ready for work…

Murder Melts In Your Mouth

I have been really bad about updating what book I am currently reading in my side bar.

I just finished reading “Murder Melts In Your Mouth” by Nancy Martin.  This was the first book I read by her.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t the first in the series.

However, whether or not it was first, I flew through that book and wanted more.  The story was engrossing, the characters were endearing and the writing was hilarious.  It really kept me involved.

This was another all-nighter book.  I couldn’t put it down.  I am shocked that I didn’t wake my family up in the middle of the night laughing my ass off.

I highly recommend this book.  I will definitely be on the look out for more of her books.

If you are wanting to start at the beginning of the series, the first book is called “How To Murder a Millionaire”.

Unfortunately I am still on my old computer.  So I don’t have that great little program that I use to blog with.  That allows me to put the great book info right into the post.

Hopefully, I will be getting my computer back real soon.  I had it dropped off at my friend’s computer shop, 22nd Century Computers in Dania.  They are really great guys there.

The weather has been really sucky here today.  It has been raining all day.  The umbrella in the backyard got blown over earlier.  I tried to go out and put it back upright, but the wind was so nasty that it just kept knocking it over.  The base was too heavy for me to move so I couldn’t get it out of the wind.

Pushing to the Limits

Last night before running downstairs to watch Ruby, I thought that I would try an experiment.  I really wasn’t sure if it would work or not.  I started the patcher for City of Heroes/Villains.  I let the patcher run all night.  I figured what would it hurt.  So I patched a game and wouldn’t be able to play it.

Well….. I am able to log in and play.  I have to have the graphic options set down to minimum and I am laggy in the cities, but I can at least play.  So this morning I was running around doing missions on my mastermind.  I haven’t played that toon in ages.  It was a lot of fun.  I was shocked that there wasn’t a bigger patch then there was.  Think about it, this computer has been in the closet for almost 2 years now.  That is a long time in the realm of MMOs.  Heck, EQ2 has had 1 expansion and another is about to be released any day now since this computer was last online.

Anyway, Ruby was awesome last night.  I really admire her for her strength and courage.  It really takes a lot of guts to go on TV and go through what she is going through.  I really think that she needs to tell Denny off though.  Seriously, the man is so shallow.  He reminds me of that movie Shallow Hal.   Hmm… Maybe he needs to be tortured by watching that movie over and over.  Then he might get into his thick skull that she is beautiful outside too.  Just because she isn’t anorexic like a model, doesn’t mean she isn’t beautiful.

Sometimes I wonder what some of the old world masters would think of what we consider beauty today.  Think about it.  Look at all the old world painters (i.e. Titian).  They mainly painted women who were chubby.  The reason for that is because in the old days, if you were overweight that meant that you were rich and healthy.  Only rich people could afford to eat enough to become overweight.  Now only rich people can afford to eat the healthy foods since it is so expensive to shop at stores like Whole Foods.  Society has really taken a wrong turn.

Expanding The Mind

Since my good computer is on the fritz, I have been spending alot of time reading.

I just finished reading “Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder” by Joanne Fluke.  This is the 2nd Hannah Swenson murder book that I have read.  It is the 1st in the series though.

Hannah runs a bakery/coffee shop in a small town in Minnesota.  Not only is the story well written and engrossing, but the book is peppered with wonderful recipes and baking tips.

In fact, I photocopied a few of the recipes that I really wanted to try out before passing the book along to my sister.

I just started reading another book called “Candy Cane Murder”.  This one actually has 3 short stories by 3 different authors.  The reason I picked up this book was because there is a short Hannah Swenson story in there.  Plus in addition to the usual cookie recipes, there are recipes for quiche.

The second author I hadn’t read before.  So I wasn’t sure what I was in for.  I am halfway through her story and it is really boring me to tears.  The story line seems ok.  However, it feels almost like she came up with it at the last minute.  Plus some of the cliches that she uses are just too much.

The third author, I have read before.  In fact, I had read a whole book by her and hated it.  I might just go ahead and read it to see if she does better with a short story.  I had previously read “Bake Sale Murder” and the storyline seemed to drag on.  The majority of the story she kept going on and on about he hazing the cheerleaders and newer football players were being forced to undergo.  Now don’t get me wrong it was actually pretty interesting.  However, that whole story line is wrapped up in only 1 or 2 lines.  There was no explanation of how or why.  It was just so and so doesn’t approve of it and it will no longer happen.  Umm… Ok….  That was a complete fumble on her part.  I like to have loose ends tied up a little more neatly then that.  It felt almost like she didn’t have enough to fill up the pages with just the murder mystery, so she added this other story line in and didn’t know how to end it.   I really have a feeling that the short story will be alot easier for her to handle.

Well, only 15 minutes until Ruby comes on.  So I need to get downstairs, grab a huge glass of pomagranete juice and get ready.  I know that this week will be just as good as last week.  I don’t think that I will watch it several times though.  Then again, who knows.  I just might.

Out In The Cold

Well, my video card died yesterday morning and unfortunately took something out with it.  I just didn’t have the time or energy to be rooting around in the computer to figure it out.

So I dug out of the closet my old computer.  It hasn’t been hooked up since April 07.  I prayed that it worked as I hooked it back up.  So here I am back on the old computer.

I need to get in touch with IBuyPower to find out about the other computer.  I found an old email showing that I had purchased the 3 year warranty on it.  So that is good.  I have a feeling that I will have to send it back in to get fixed though.  I was hoping that just dropping a new video card in would fix it.  But it won’t.

At least I have a back up until I figure out what is going on.  I would hate to lose the data on the other computer.  I have 2 hard drives each with about 100 gigs worth of info.   Granted, most of it is games.  My mmos take up huge expanses of space due to all the patches and expansions.

I sincerely doubt that I would be able to play many MMOs on this computer.  I was already lagging in most games over a year ago.  I would hate to see how it is now.  At least I still have Guild Wars.  I found out one time that I could still play Guild Wars even on dial up.  So I should have no problem playing it still on this computer.

Losing sight

Well, my video card is on the way out.  It keeps giving me issues.  I can at least get on the computer for right now.  I can’t play any of my games.  This totally sucks!!

I don’t have the money to get a new video card right now.  I am not sure what I am going to do.  I will at least try to get on the computer until it completely goes.  Its better then nothing.

After it completely goes, I guess I will catch up on reading.

In The Spotlight

Wow!  They changed out the light bulbs in the office and it is now way to bright in there.  In fact, they had even changed out some of the light fixtures.  Now the lights they use put out much more light.

I ended up leaving there tonight with a massive headache.  The light was bothering my eyes.

Well, today I started out really great.  I exercised this morning.  I had a pomegranate for breakfast.  I love eating those things.  They are a bitch to prepare, but once its ready…. OMG!  The taste is incredible.

For lunch, I had one of those Healthy Choice Steamers or whatever they are called.  This was the salmon dill one.  It has salmon, pasta, and broccoli with a dill sauce.  It was yummy.

I did pretty bad at dinner though.  My brother-in-law made ribs tonight with pasta.  I only ate the ribs.  I didn’t eat any of the pasta.  And I didn’t eat a ton of ribs either.  They had left a half a rack there for me and I didn’t even eat all of that.

Well, I am getting sleepy.  I need to go downstairs to take my nightly medicine.  I have to sit up for half an hour after I take it.  That kinda sucks.

Yes We Can

Last night, I watched the premier of a TV show called Ruby.  Its on the Style Network.  If you haven’t heard of the show, let me tell you that it is truly inspirational.

Its not just another reality TV show.  It is the journey of one woman to gain her life back.  At the beginning of taping Ruby weighed in at nearly 500 pounds.  Her doctor basically told her that if she didn’t do something now, there may not be a future.  I know that feeling.  I have heard those words before.

Each episode takes you through the struggles and triumphs as she attempts to overcome her weight.

I have to say that after watching last night, I was truly inspired to start working on losing weight again.  I had become extremely discouraged when I started having the seizures.  I felt like I would take 1 step forward and 10 steps back.  Every time I would overcome one hurdle, another was thrown in my way.

I can’t keep thinking like that!  To take a wonderful line from Barack Obama, YES WE CAN!  That is going to be my new motto.  Every time I sit back and give up, I am going to remember YES WE CAN!  Every time I stop believing in myself, I will think of Ruby and how she isn’t stopping.  I will think of Barack Obama not stopping until he was president.

I can do this.  I may not be getting any support whatsoever from my family, but I can do this.

So this morning, I dusted off the Wii Fit and got to working out.  I was extremely exhausted but it really felt good to get up and move about.  I had to start back from the beginning.  The dang thing told me that I hadn’t worked out in 143 days.  Wow!  I really gave up.

I also ordered a book that I had been wanting.  My sister had promised to buy it for me for my birthday.  Well that came and gone.  Her husband is telling me that I should just print pages out off the internet.

The book that I was wanting keeps track of any signs and symptoms that you are having.  Because besides overcoming my weight, I have to overcome several illnesses.  My seizures are out of control again.  This book allows me to track what’s going on in my body.

If you have illnesses that you are trying to get stabilized, then I highly suggest this book.  There are places to keep track of your medicines, your food, your symptoms, etc.  It really is a great book.

I am taking back my life with the words YES WE CAN!
