Fingernails to health
I love using StumbleUpon! I always find such interesting websites that I would normally not see otherwise.
I just came across a really interesting post on another site about how you can see some problems in your body by looking at your fingernails. I had already known about ridges in the nails meaning you are low in iron. However, this site also posted that the less moons you have on your fingernails, the worse off your thyroid is.
That got me to looking at my fingernails! I have no moons showing on my fingernails. None at all. Not even a slight one peeking out somewhere. I am curious to see if any other thyroid sufferers have the same thing. Could this be true? Could that actually indicate thyroid issues? If so, then why don’t doctors look at that as an indication and start watching the thyroid if a person is missing some?

I think that is not so much a symptom as a side effect. Maybe it only happens some of the time? For instance, I’ve never had ridges on my nails, but every time I get blood tests they yell that I’m low on iron. So I think if it only happens some of the time and Doctors used it as even a minor sign, it could lead to maybe more undiagnoses? That’s just my take. Anyway, always good to hear from you! (i also love stumble, it keeps me up many a late night)

Im not sure I agree… there could be quite a lot of reasons for ridges on your fingernails. why not get a professionals opinion? I have ridges on some of my fingernails, but that has to do with having them broken! The part of the nail, below the skin, is damaged, and cannot produce the fingernail, in a proper way anymore….

Very interesting article, it god me to think and look at my fingernail. I also have some ridges, but I dont think, that it indicate, that I have problems with health. My friend has a lot of moons on her fingernails, but she hasnt any problems with thyroid. So I also think that we need professional opinion.

I have ridges in my nails and no moons. I have been diagnosed by two doctors with low iron levels and low thyroid.
